Below is a selection of market days in the Perigord Region, enjoy the atmosphere in these traditional country markets as you stock up on local produce to enjoy on the Barbecue or at the dining table back at the cottage.

Night Markets Many towns and villages have in recent years started holding regular night markets. The name does not give justice to these superb events. Usually there are a selection of stalls selling all kinds of specialities including food, wine and eau de vie to be purchased and either taken away or eaten at the tables provided, a very jolly evening follows!! Definitely worth the effort are Sauveterre la Lemance -Tuesdays from 18.30 from mid July-end August, Loubejac - Thursdays from 18.30 mid July-end August, and Eymet. Check for others at the local Syndicate d'Initiative.

Attractions and days out in the PerigordThe Perigord area offers plenty of opportunity for exciting days out that will appeal to all ages. There are Chateaux, Beautiful villages, country parks and activity centres that will appeal to all ages.There is a wide selection of leaflets, books and maps in the cottage to help you plan your days out. Grottes de VillarsA half hour drive from Puydoyeux this fascinating 13km network of caves was discovered in 1953 by a group of pot-holers from the town of PÈrigueux. The accessible part of the cavern is just part of an immense network of caves of which, to this day, 13 kms has been studied for topographical plans. You can see a wide range of formations throughout the visit from immense, impressive calcite flows to the finest stalactites, translucent drapes, large plateaux and innumerable stalagmites.For more nformation visit the Sites in Perigord website:

Le Chateau de PuyguilhelmAgain only half an hour from Puydoyeux and close the the Grottes de Villars this 16th century chateau offers an opportunity to see the richly sculptured decoration and tapestries and furniture of this architypal french chateau.For more information on this chateau and other historic sites in the region visit:

 Velo RailGain some exercise and see unspoilt countryside on this unusual activity attraction. Follow an old disused railway track on a five seater rail cycle (2 pedalling, 3 passengers!) This is a 10km round trip, Cognac to Les Chatignoles. Book in advance on: 05 53 52 42 93

 Saint Jean-de-ColeClassified as one of the ëMost Beautiful Villages in Franceí this medieval village features a 11th Century church, a Chateau, Cloisters, stone bridges and picturesque houses. Combine a leisurely visit with a coffee or lunch in the heart of this wonderful village.

 ShoppingHow could we not mention the opportunities for retail therapy offered in the region, as well as many farm shops that you will pass whilst driving through the region we would recommend a trip to Limoges to stroll along the winding streets and elegant boulevards. There are many opportunities to buy the famous Limoges porcelain in the factory shops and fine boutiques
